Poor nutrition making pregnancy harder for many women, experts

Health experts are raising concern over the growing number of pregnant women who struggle with fatigue, dizziness, and low energy due to irregular and unbalanced eating habits during pregnancy.

Nutritionist Ella says she has repeatedly encountered expectant mothers who skip meals, rely on snacks, or dismiss persistent exhaustion as a “normal” part of pregnancy, when in reality their bodies are signaling nutritional distress. “I’ve seen pregnant women skip breakfast because of nausea, others surviving mostly on snacks all day, and many who are constantly tired but think it’s just part of pregnancy,” Ella explains.

“What they all have in common is that their bodies are asking for better nourishment and proper rest.” According to nutrition specialists, pregnancy places increased demands on the body, and when meals are irregular or lacking key nutrients, the physical toll becomes heavier.

Common effects include rapid energy loss, frequent dizziness, and exhaustion even during simple daily activities. “When meals are unbalanced, pregnancy can feel harder than it should,” Ella notes.

“Energy drops quickly, simple tasks become overwhelming, and dizziness becomes frequent. These are not signs to ignore.” Experts emphasize that good pregnancy nutrition is not about eating large amounts of food, but about making the right choices.

Recommended practices include eating small, regular meals, maintaining a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, fruits, and vegetables, and ensuring adequate fluid intake and rest. “Pregnancy nutrition is not about eating plenty, it’s about eating right,” Ella says. “Small, consistent meals and proper hydration can make a big difference in how a woman feels throughout the day.”

Health professionals stress that while pregnancy is naturally demanding, it should not completely drain an expectant mother. “With the right care, nourishment, and rest, pregnancy does not have to be exhausting,” Ella adds.

“Listening to your body is one of the first steps toward a healthier pregnancy.” The experts encourage pregnant women to seek nutritional guidance early and to avoid normalizing persistent fatigue or dizziness, as timely dietary adjustments can significantly improve maternal well-being and pregnancy outcomes.
