Kenya launches national measles-rubella and typhoid vaccination campaign for children

The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide vaccination campaign targeting children between the ages of 9 months and 14 years to protect them against Measles-Rubella and Typhoid. The campaign, which runs from 5th to 14th July 2025, is being conducted across all public health facilities in the country.

The initiative is aimed at curbing the spread of two vaccine-preventable diseases that continue to pose significant health risks to children. The Measles-Rubella vaccine will protect against the highly contagious viral diseases, while the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) offers long-term protection against typhoid fever, a life-threatening bacterial infection.

“These life-saving vaccines are available free of charge, and we urge all parents and guardians to ensure their children receive them during this period,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Health authorities are calling on communities to take full advantage of the campaign and help prevent future outbreaks. The ministry emphasized that timely vaccination is one of the most effective public health measures to reduce child morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases.

The campaign comes as part of Kenya’s broader effort to strengthen routine immunization and improve child health outcomes in line with national and global health targets.

Parents are encouraged to visit the nearest public health facility with their children during the campaign window.
